Synopsis

The villagers in Sayit are about to receive land titles, and will own their land for the first time in centuries. Many are ecstatic, but 38-year-old Star could lose her home because the deeds are based on kinship ties she can’t prove. After finding a photograph of her younger self in a book, she realizes the woman with her might be her mother. But when she finds her, the woman denies everything. Desperate, Star wonders: Might she find the photographer who took the picture? Could she marry a friend? Should she sign a deal with an NGO that will bring her into conflict with her community?
