Oumou Diégane Niang

BIO

Oumou Diégane Niang, born in 1994 in Dakar, is a Senegalese film professional specializing in production, distribution, and international sales. After studying journalism and communication, she discovered her passion for cinema and joined the Cinebanlieue collective in 2017. Later, she trained at the Yennenga Center with renowned director Alain Gomis, focusing on film production and distribution.
 
She has contributed to the distribution of acclaimed films such as Nafi’s FatherNight of the Kings, and The Crossing, gaining recognition for her innovative and strategic approach. In 2023, she founded Wawkumba Film, a company dedicated to production, distribution, and international film sales. Under her leadership, the company successfully managed films like Sada’s SheepDemba, and Don’t Wake the Sleeping Child—the first short film ever screened in Senegalese theaters.
 
In 2024, she was selected for the CannesMakers program at the Cannes Film Festival, being the only African representative in her category. Today, she continues to expand the reach of African cinema worldwide under her guiding motto: “Selling the African dream.”
