PRODUCER’S STATEMENT (Carolyn Carew)  

I was honored to be part of a team that worked closely with Shabalala’s family and the Foundation to tell Joseph Shabalala’s story; we were with him until he left us on 11 February 2020.

To be in his presence was to be left in awe of his deep commitment to his craft, informed by his love of music, the land, nature, spirituality, and culture. It has been inspiring to read and listen to his memoirs, and to see how he dedicated his unique and powerful voice to bringing Ladysmith Black Mambazo’s music to the world.
