Aïcha Camara

Aicha Camara is an Afro-descendant filmmaker and optometrist based in Madrid. Born in Conakry (Guinea), she emigrated to Spain at the age of nine. Her career líes at the intersection of social activism, cinematic art, and visual health, with a deep comnútment to amplifying African andAfro-Spanish stories through a lens that is personal, political, and aesthetically driven.

In the field of film, she has written and directed works with strong social content, such as MYA (2021), a short film denouncing female genital mutilation. MYA was awarded Best Social Short at the FICSEM Festival (Torrevieja) and received an enthusiastic response at festivals like Sanse Cortos en Abierto. The piece has also been screened at intemationally recognised venues, including Casa África, and featured in social cinema cycles.

In 2023, Camara presented Jimmy, a poetic and politically engaged short film that pays tribute to Ndombele Augusto Domingos, an Angolan teenager murdered in 2002.

Starring Astrid Jones, the film rehumanises Jimmy’s story and denounces institutional violence against racialised youth.

Sbe is currently developing her first feature film, Un sueño (A Dream), inspired by tbe life of her uncle, Lanfia Keita -a Guinean migrant lawyer who died in Spain after being denied medica! care. With this film, Ai”cha Camara continues her mission to tell silenced stories, blending aesthetic sensitivity with powerful social critique.
