In 2014, he co-directed\u00a0<em>Une r\u00e9volution africaine, les dix jours qui ont fait chuter Blaise Compaor\u00e9 (An African Revolution: The Ten Days that Led to Blaise Compaor\u00e9&#8217;s Fall),<\/em> a documentary about the popular uprising in Burkina Faso. His documentary <em>Or de vie (A Golden Life)<\/em> (2023), which had its world premiere at Berlinale forum, was selected for more than seventy international film festivals and received about fifteen awards and honors. In 2026,\u00a0<em>Djeliya, Memory of Mandingo,<\/em> his second feature-length documentary intended for theatrical release, had its world premiere at the Visions du R\u00e9el, where it received a special mention from the jury of the international competition. He is currently developing\u00a0<em>The Delinquent Gods\u00a0<\/em>his first fiction film and\u00a0<em>Searching for the Playboy,<\/em> a documentary about the enigmatic Malian billionaire Baba Sora. I hope to inspire pride in young people for their shared history and encourage them to use it to build a future free from conflict between communities.<\/p><p>Through encounters with griots &#8211; whether traditional or more modern, and sometimes musicians of global renown &#8211; I trace the evolution of the griot\u2019s unifying role. I also examine West Africa as it confronts its colonial past and the contradictions of the present. Western colonization left open wounds, of which the borders and the economic presence of the former colonizer are the most visible elements today. Arab colonization, older and less well-known, is also felt through the spread of Islam and the Arabic language in West Africa, which sometimes competes with local traditions and religions.<\/p><p>The film becomes an epic &#8211; both intimate and historical &#8211; of the griots, evoked as a contemporary call for reconciliation and understanding, yet personified by the universal, initiatory quest of S\u00e9kou, a young man searching for his destiny and his father.
